A cutting plane algorithm for solving bilinear programs

This paper addresses itself to a special class of nonconvex quadratic program referred to as a bilinear program in the literature. We will propose here a cutting plane algorithm to solve this class of problems. The algorithm is along the lines of H. Tui and K. Ritter, but it differs in its exploitation of the special structure of the problem. Though the algorithm is not guaranteed at this stage of the research to converge to a global optimum, the preliminary results of numerical experiments are encouraging.This research was partially supported by the Office of Naval Research under Contract N-00014-67-A-0112-0011; and U.S. Atomic Energy Commission Contract AT(04-3)-326-PA # 18.     

Conjugate addition of copper(I) aldimines to α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds — synthesis of 1,4-diketones

This paper describes the finding that BF₃ etherate effectuates the conjugate additions of copper(I) aldimines, generated in situ from lithium aldimines and Cu(I) halide, to α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds to produce 4-(N-alkylimino)-ketones, which give on acid hydrolysis 1,4-diketone derivatives.     

Ring-transformation equilibrium with participation of π-bonded S in an isothiazole system. Synthesis of non-ring-transformed 5-(2-aminovinyl)isothiazole derivative via 1,3-silyl group shift

Substituents at 5-position of 5-amino-3-methyl- and 3-p-chlorophenyl-5-methylisothiazoles (7 and 8) were silylated and then lithiated to couple with aromatic nitriles in order to afford the adducts (4 and 5) via 1,3-silyl group shift. Desilylation of 5 with TBAF gave solely non-ring-transformed product (3-α-form). By using the pure sample of 3-α-form, the reversible ring-trans- formation (bond switch) was observed $\text{under neutral conditions}$ for the first time.     

The isolation and structure of tricyclosolidagolactone,a new diterpene from solidago altissima l.

Tricyclosolidagolactone has been isolated from the leaves of $\text{Solidago altissima}$ L., and its structure also been elucidated on the basis of its spectral data coupled with an X-ray crystallographic analysis of the corresponding trihydroxy compound produced on LiAlH₄ reduction.     

Solid-phase syntheses of olefin-containing inhibitors for HTLV-1 protease using the Horner-Emmons reaction

[reaction: see text] The solid-phase Horner-Emmons reaction was successfully applied for the convenient syntheses of olefin-containing protease inhibitors. The isomerization during the solid-phase Horner-Emmons reaction can be minimized simply by the use of an appropriate amount of the base. The synthesized olefin peptides, which have an olefin gamma-amino acid at the scissile site, were found to act as effective inhibitors for the HTLV-1 protease for the first time.
